Houston Commute Time Checker

Houston commutes change a lot by hour and by road. Put in an apartment address and where you work or study, pick the time you travel, and see the drive, METRO transit or walking time.

How you get there

Times use Google's predicted traffic and transit schedules for the next matching day. Real trips vary with wrecks, weather and construction.

How to use it when comparing apartments

  • Check each address on your list at the hour you really leave, not mid-day.
  • Try both directions. The evening drive home is often the longer one.
  • If your route uses a toll road, add the tolls to your monthly budget next to the rent.
  • For METRO, check the walk to the stop at night too, if you work late shifts.

Questions

Where do the times come from?

From Google's routing data, using predicted traffic for the day and hour you pick. Real trips can run longer after a wreck, in heavy rain, or during construction.

Do you attach drive times to my apartment list?

No. This tool lets you check any address yourself, at your own hours. If you want help reading the results, ask us.

Does it include tolls?

When Google has toll prices for the route, we show them. Houston toll rates depend on your tag and the road. Treat the number as an estimate, and budget for tolls if your route uses them.

Why does arrive by driving show an estimate?

Google takes a departure time for driving, so we work back from your arrival time and show when to leave. Leave a few extra minutes.
